Flat 9, 30 The Paragon, Walcot, Bath, Bath and North-East Somerset, BA1 5LY

Proposal

External alterations for the replacement of existing single-glazed sash windows with new slimline double-glazed sash windows

Our Response

No. 30 The Paragon is included on the National Heritage List for England (NHLE) at Grade II. List entry number: 1394242 (Axford’s Buildings, 22-37, Paragon). No. 30 is located within the Bath World Heritage Site(s) and the Bath city-wide conservation area.

With reference to the text of the NHLE entry “Nos 28 to 32 were demolished by bombing in 1942 and are now restored”. This is reflected in the Design and Access Statement (including Heritage Report) at section 3.0, p.4.

Given that the subject windows are relatively modern and that the proposed approach is suitably in keeping with the historic design of the building and the wider terrace, the scheme will not detract from the significance of the listed building, or the conservation area and the outstanding universal value of the World Heritage Site(s) will be maintained.

BPT supports the approach to improve the thermal efficiency of the windows and therefore the flat, in a sympathetic manner.
